Meet Dr. Joseph Mercola

Dr. Joseph Mercola is the founder of the #1 natural health website in the world. I have personally been using his products for years with 100% satisfaction. He has over 1 million subscribers and continues to provide us with current, accurate, and truthful health information that we can use in improving our overall health and longevity. On my site you will find multiple banner ads for your easy access to Dr. Mercola’s website and products pages. I’m thankful that after review of my site that Dr. Mercola has granted me the privilege of being an affiliate to Mercola.com. I hope this information will positive impact your life as much as it has mine.

Dr. Mercola has made significant milestones in his mission to bring people practical solutions to their health problems. A New York Times Best Selling Author, Dr. Mercola was also voted the 2009 Ultimate Wellness Game Changer by the Huffington Post, and has been featured in TIME magazine, LATimes, CNN, Fox News, ABC News with Peter Jennings, Today Show, CBS’s Washington Unplugged with Sharyl Attkisson, and other major media resources.

The following information was taken directly from Mercola.com with hopes that you can get to know Dr. Mercola and what he can help you to improve your health, and the health of society in general.

“First and foremost, I (Dr. Mercola) am an osteopathic physician, also known as a DO.

DOs are licensed physicians who, like MDs, can prescribe medication and perform surgery in all 50 states. DOs and MDs have similar training and licensing requirements, beginning with four years of study in the basic and clinical sciences, followed by the successful completion of licensing exams.

But DOs bring something special (and I believe critical) to the practice of medicine.

Osteopathic physicians approach medicine holistically, treating the entire person rather than a collection of symptoms. DOs help patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that don’t just fight illness, but help to prevent it as well.

I am also board-certified in family medicine and served as the chairman of the family medicine department at St. Alexius Medical Center for five years. I am trained in both traditional and natural medicine.

Honored by the Huffington Post in 2009

In November 2009, I was named the by the Huffington Post as the “Ultimate Game Changer in Wellness,” an honor bestowed upon me by her readers themselves.

The Huffington Post defined Ultimate Game Changers as:

“100 innovators, visionaries, and leaders in 10 categories who are harnessing the power of new media to reshape their fields and change the world.”

Of the 100 candidates, a single top Ultimate Game Changer is selected for each of the 10 categories, of which Wellness is one.

I am truly honored to be doing this work on your behalf. I promise to continue helping you separate fact from fiction when it comes to your health, undauntedly bringing you accurate, relevant information through Mercola.com.”

Practice Profile:

I am dedicated to finding long-term solutions for my patients who suffer from chronic illnesses. A number of prescription medications are beneficial tools that can help provide relief from some acute illnesses, and as a fully licensed physician, I occasionally prescribe them for these purposes. However, I believe that most medications provide only temporary relief at best, and as an osteopathic physician, I seek to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Education:

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 1972-1976
Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine 1978-1982
Chicago Osteopathic Hospital 1982-1985 Family Practice Residency. Chief resident 1984- 1985
Board Certified American College Osteopathic General Practitioners July 1985
State of Illinois Licensed Physician and Surgeon

Professional Organizations:

Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (www.aapsonline.org/aaps)
Advisory Board member NOHA (Nutrition for Optimal Health Association) (www.nutrition4health.org)
Advisory Board member Price-Pottinger Nutrition Foundation (www.price-pottenger.org)

Finally I have included a video that I think will be helpful in determining if Dr. Mercola is the right person to get your health advice from. I think you will be pleased.

CROSSFIT! The Fitness Philosophy of the Future

It is my great pleasure to finally get around to talking about something that has truly changed the way I look at fitness.

If you’ve never heard of CROSSFIT before, your not alone. A very new, and incredibly effective training system and philosophy has been introduced to the world of fitness, the likes of which have never been seen before. Simply put Crossfit involves high intensity, constantly varied, functional movements. Allow me to explain.

Crossfit workouts do not include any rest. Workouts our done as fast as possible, are always timed and the weight used is always challenging for the individual. That’s where “high intensity” comes from. Crossfit workouts can include any number of combination’s of exercises, that will almost never be repeated. That’s where the “constantly varied” comes from. Finally, Crossfit workouts involve functional movements only. This means you will only be engaging in movements that are realistic to everyday life. You will find no machines at a Crossfit gym. That is where “functional movements” come from.

What will Crossfit do for you and your fitness?

I think Crossfit founder Greg Glassman put it best when he said ” Our training program causes you to develop an increased work capacity, over broad time and motile domains.”

Even as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, it took me a few minutes to break down that sentence into something that made sense to me. So let me break it down for you. What Greg is trying to say, in simple terms, is that you will be able to handle any physical challenge life could possible throw at you, as a result of your Crossfit training program.

What general physical skills will I improve upon?

Crossfit workouts will help you to develop and improve drastically in the following areas.

Cardiovascular/Respiratory Endurance
Stamina
Strength
Flexibility
Power
Speed
Coordination
Agility
Balance
Accuracy

From a personal standpoint, after just 1 month of Crossfit workouts I was at a level of fitness that I had never seen before in my life. Crossfit continues to be my choice for optimal fitness to this day.

In conclusion let me say that although Crossfit was originally tailor made for fire fighters, police, special forces, military, and mixed martial artists, it can be modified for any age group or fitness level. This allows everyone to enjoy the fitness benefits of Crossfit. Crossfit’s national website is Crossfit.com. There you will find an affiliate page that will provide you will all of the Crossfit locations in your area.

I would also like to recommend that you read this amazing article by Crossfit founder Greg Glassman titled “What is Fitness”. You can find it on the the Crossfit website under the “What is Fitness” link.

I hope you have enjoyed this blog post and I wish you the best of health in the New Year and for the rest of your life.
